What Frio County VINELink Covers
Texas changed the county service on September 1, 2025. IVSS-Counties is now the official county custody and court notification portal. The Frio County Sheriff's Office page still directs readers to VINELink, so that older wording should be treated as a legacy route, not proof that every current Frio booking appears in the old interface.
Use IVSS-Counties for a Frio County Jail detainee, subject to live participation and available data. Use TDCJ IVSS for a person at Dolph Briscoe Unit or on TDCJ parole or mandatory supervision. A person at South Texas ICE Processing Center or Dilley Immigration Processing Center belongs in ICE systems, not IVSS. A BOP prisoner belongs in the BOP Locator.
Search a Frio County Inmate in IVSS
The county portal can be searched before creating an account. Use enough identifying information to avoid joining two people with similar names, and keep the last known facility in view.
- Open Texas IVSS-Counties and enter the person's name and any available case or booking information.
- Compare each result with the known person and select the record tied to Frio County Jail. Do not select a similar name merely because the age seems close.
- Open the record and read both facility and event. “Transfer to TDCJ” means a custody move, not release to the community.
- If no Frio match appears, call the sheriff at 830-505-7153 and request the booking-out, release, or transfer entry.
- For a TDCJ person, switch to state IVSS and search by name, SID, current TDCJ number, or former TDCJ number.

What Frio County IVSS Events Show
Fields are interface dependent, and no fixed archive period for released Frio County results is documented. Treat the displayed terms as event clues and preserve the notice for follow-up.

A missing result proves none of those events. It may reflect a mismatch, data delay, transfer, nonparticipation, or limited persistence after release.
Register for a Frio County Release Alert
The current county system advertises confidential registration, English and Spanish automation, text, telephone, and email choices, timing preferences, and blackout periods. Registration is free under the official program description.
- Search first and open the record that matches the person and facility.
- Create or sign into the one-time IVSS-Counties account.
- Select release, transfer, court, or other events that matter for that record.
- Choose telephone, text, or email and set the delivery preferences offered by the portal.
- Complete account and contact verification exactly as the current provider directs.
- Save each alert and compare it with the jail or court record before drawing a final conclusion.
For help, the current OAG page lists 866-268-8959 for around-the-clock assistance. A TDCJ FAQ lists 866-393-5445 for county jail information. Because the official sources differ, use the current portal first and keep the source attached to either number.
Frio County VINELink Limits
IVSS is a notification service, not certification. County participation and individual records can differ, event data can lag, and result wording may change. It does not replace the Frio County Sheriff's booking-out entry, a TDCJ release record, or the matching court disposition.
For a Frio County Jail event, request the permanent jail-register entry and the release or transfer record. For TDCJ, confirm through offender information, Parole Division, or a records request. If the alert says transfer, identify the destination before describing the person as released.
Frio County's VINE to IVSS Transition
The local mismatch is important enough to stand on its own. Texas moved county notifications to IVSS-Counties, while the current Frio sheriff page still carries VINELink wording. Existing registrations were migrated. The OAG says an initial portal login prompts a password update, and telephone or text notices continue through a different provider.
New users should follow the current OAG portal. A migrated user can begin with the old account trail, but should update credentials as prompted and check that the correct person and events remain selected. The sheriff's old link is evidence of earlier VINE use, not a guarantee that every record migrated without issue.
Frio County Alert PIN Instructions
The legacy Texas VINE brochure required telephone registrants to create a four-digit PIN and enter that PIN plus the pound sign to acknowledge automated calls. Calls could repeat when they were not acknowledged. That is a historically verified workflow.
Current IVSS public documents do not promise a four-digit PIN. Do not invent one or reuse an old PIN without a live prompt. Follow the portal or provider's present verification steps. This distinction prevents old VINELink advice from blocking a current Frio County alert.
TDCJ IVSS for Frio County Cases
A person transferred from Frio County Jail to TDCJ moves into a separate notification layer. TDCJ IVSS can send notices about parole eligibility, Board decisions, bench-warrant movement, discharge, prison release, and supervision. Its offender search accepts name, SID, current TDCJ number, or prior TDCJ number.
Open View Details, verify the record, and subscribe to the needed events. TDCJ's public inmate search is limited to people currently incarcerated, so a former prisoner's disappearance from that search is expected. State IVSS, Parole Division confirmation, and former-inmate records are the proper follow-up.

Match the Right Frio County Record
A specific-person check is useful only when the result belongs to the intended person. Begin with the full legal name and compare any available booking, case, or agency identifier. Confirm that the facility is Frio County Jail for the county search or TDCJ for the state search. If more than one record remains plausible, do not choose based on name alone.
The person's path through Frio County can cross systems. A jail detainee may post bond, finish a county sentence, transfer to TDCJ, move to another county, or enter ICE custody. IVSS wording should be read literally. A Frio County jail transfer record and a TDCJ arrival can describe the same movement from opposite sides, while neither proves community release.
Once matched, note the event date, facility, and status wording. Keep the alert message or account record. Then request the source record using those details. A narrow request for the matching booking-out or transfer entry is more reliable than asking whether someone is simply “gone.”
Frio County Court Alerts and Custody
IVSS-Counties advertises court-event notices as well as booking, release, death, escape, and transfer events. A court action can explain why release is authorized, but it does not show the instant when staff completed physical release. Likewise, a jail event may show departure without explaining the case disposition.
Pair the alert with the right local record. District felony matters go through the Frio County District Clerk and the 81st and 218th District Court path. County criminal matters go through the County Clerk. Justice courts retain their own matters. Use the case number when known, then match the order to the jail timestamp.
No alert should be stretched beyond its stated event. A bond change is not proof that bond was posted. A dismissal can coexist with another hold. A transfer to TDCJ means state custody continues. The combined custody and court record gives the defensible Frio County conclusion.
When Frio County IVSS Is the Wrong Tool
Two immigration custody facilities operate in Frio County. South Texas ICE Processing Center in Pearsall and Dilley Immigration Processing Center use ICE release and transfer channels. Search ICE ODLS for current or recent detention and contact ERO when the locator cannot establish the outcome. Disappearance can reflect release, transfer, removal, or a locator limit.
A BOP prisoner belongs in the BOP inmate locator, which can show a release date and “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” wording subject to its record limits. A USMS pretrial prisoner may require the federal docket and agency confirmation. County IVSS cannot fill those gaps.
