Frio Jail Release Destinations
A departure from Frio County Jail can have several meanings. A person may leave on bond, after time served, or under another court-authorized disposition. The same booking-out process can also record a transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, another county, or another authority. Only the recorded destination and disposition establish which event occurred. “Released from the jail” therefore does not always mean free in the community.
The Frio County Sheriff's Office holds the jail-side record. Ask for the booking-out sheet, release date and time, release or transfer order, custody log, releasing authority, and destination or receiving agency if recorded. A court file adds the legal basis, such as a bond order, sentence, dismissal, or other disposition. Pairing the jail timestamp with the court order prevents a court ruling from being mistaken for the hour physical custody ended.

Confirm a Frio Jail Release
The official Frio County Sheriff's Office page gives the jail contact and legacy VINELink wording, but it does not display a verified public roster or recent-release report. Texas moved county notification functions to IVSS-Counties in September 2025. IVSS can help with a named-person search or event alert, yet a blank result is not proof of release because participation, refresh timing, and result persistence are not documented for a live Frio record.

- Call the sheriff at 830-505-7153 and identify the current public-information officer and accepted written-request address.
- Request existing booking-out, release, transfer, and jail-register records for a narrow person and date range.
- Match the event to the District, County, or Justice Court record that supplied the legal authority.
- If the record names TDCJ or ICE, continue with that agency rather than calling the transfer a community release.
Frio Jail Release Records
Frio County publishes no dedicated sheriff records email, request portal, form, fax, office hours, price table, retention statement, or production promise. Do not send a records demand through the county's general contact form and assume it reached the sheriff's records custodian. Call first. A written request under the Texas Public Information Act should ask for named existing documents, not ask staff to answer research questions or create a new report.
Give the full name, date of birth or booking number if known, and a focused date range. Name the jail-register entry, booking-in and booking-out sheets, release date and time, disposition, receiving agency, bond or releasing authority, custody log, release or transfer order, and booking photograph only if the photo is needed. Ask for electronic copies and an itemized estimate before production if charges may apply. No Frio-specific release-record or photograph fee was verified.
The Texas attorney general's public-information request guidance explains that agencies provide existing information. The governmental body must respond promptly. Within the statutory framework, it may release records, provide a production date, state that no responsive record exists, cite a prior determination, or seek an attorney general ruling. Ten business days is not an automatic production deadline. Exceptions, redaction, and identity protections can still control disclosure.
Older Frio Release Records
An older departure may no longer appear in any current notification interface. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission's Local Schedule PS gives minimum retention periods for local public-safety records. The county jail register is permanent, while incarceration and release records generally have a minimum tied to release plus two years. Those are retention floors, not a promise that every detail will be public or kept in one system.
When a recent booking packet is unavailable, specifically request the permanent jail-register entry. Then obtain the matching criminal case record. Felony district records route through the Frio County District Clerk; county criminal matters route through the County Clerk, and justice courts hold their own cases. Sealed, expunged, or otherwise restricted material may not be available. The custodian's response controls.

The office can identify its current records custodian and explain how to deliver a request. It should not be asked to interpret a court order or predict what another agency will do. For felony dispositions, the District Clerk is a separate custodian at 500 East San Antonio Street, Box 8, Pearsall, with weekday office hours published as 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Frio Jail ICE Transfers
Frio County has two immigration detention channels near the county jail: South Texas ICE Processing Center in Pearsall and Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Dilley. If a sheriff record says the person was released to ICE, that event ends county custody but does not show release to the community. An ICE detainer is a request for notice and up to 48 additional hours of custody so ICE may assume custody. The detainer alone does not prove ICE took the person.
Read the receiving-agency and destination fields. Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator with a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or exact name and country information. ICE guidance says ODLS can include current detainees and some releases within 60 days, but exclusions and upload delays apply. A no-result can also mean transfer, removal, a release outside the recent window, or a search mismatch.
Escalate unresolved cases to the relevant Enforcement and Removal Operations office or ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line at 1-888-351-4024. Keep the immigration release, transfer, or removal papers. They distinguish outcomes that all look like a departure from one facility.
Frio Jail's Dated History
Older search results can give a distorted picture of current jail operations. KSAT documented a state-ordered shutdown in 2015, and older jail-standards material discussed a former “72-hour” lockup classification. That phrase referred to confinement classification, not a rolling list of people released during the last three days. It must not be used as evidence that Frio County publishes a 72-hour release feed.
Later reporting shows a different period. The Frio-Nueces Current inspection report says inspections in 2024, 2025, and February 2026 found compliance. The 2026 surprise-inspection story counted 59 people, including one in holding. That is a dated population snapshot, not a current capacity, release total, daily average, or statement about today's release practices.
Historical reporting is useful for understanding why directory pages conflict. It cannot confirm a named person's status. Use the booking-out record, destination, and court authority for that task.
Frio Release Terms
Several short terms help keep the record paths straight. Their precise effect depends on the actual order and custody entry.

For every term, the dated agency record matters more than the label in an old web result. Confirm who held the person immediately before and after the event.
